Hospitality has been the name of the game since the late 18th century. A five-star hostelry – Ripplecove Lakefront Hotel & Spa – continues the tradition. Ayer’s Cliff is also the site of an old-time Agricultural Expo which draws hundreds of spectators. Founded in 1845, it features a variety of livestock – from exotic breeds of chickens to giant draft horses – as well as live entertainment and good ‘ole country fare.
A 19-km (12-mile) long nature trail runs through the centre of town and from there you can follow the Townships Trail to the border town of Stanstead, home of the Colby-Curtis Museum, which serves a traditional, English-style afternoon tea. Also within easy reach is Bleu Lavande, a lavender farm where you can purchase produce infused with the byproducts of the health-giving plant.
